Though I’d long been after the Vixen Creations Maverick, it came to me in the end by chance. The fab folks at Betty’s Toy Box slipped it into a review parcel as a surprise and it’s one of the best sex toy surprises I’ve ever had. Why? Because it fits my anatomy (and needs) so perfectly it’s almost as if it was made specifically for me.
Vixen Creations is one of the best silicone toy makers out there. They produce some gorgeous dildos, butt stuff, wand attachments, and penis extender sleeves, as well as a relatively new prosthetic for gender expression. Their original formula silicone dildos are good and lovely and firm, but their VixSkin dual density dildos are where it’s at. And that’s what the Maverick is. Dual-density heaven.
On the face of it, the Maverick looks much like any other semi-realistic dildo, just with less detail. There’s that big chubby head, frenulum dip, retracted foreskin, and the thick ropy ridge down the underside of the shaft, but that’s about it. The skin texturing is super light, there isn’t a vein in sight, and there ain’t no balls. Even the colour (one of the original ‘flesh tones’ – this one being caramel) is, in a word, generic. Nothing you haven’t seen before.
But when you get The Vixen Creations Maverick in your hands, you realise immediately that it isn’t like any other (non-VixSkin) dildo out there. The outer layer of silicone it supremely squishy, spreading under the fingers like melting butter. There’s a slight tackiness to it, but don’t worry, it’s 100% silicone.
Squashing the head like a stress ball is one of the most satisfying things a bod can do with a dildo without taking their clothes off. It’s smooshy, squidgy, marshmallowy… insert your fave squish-ism here. That squishiness brings cushioning and softness, and a closer to real sensation during use.
This almost-authentic feel is magnified tenfold by the inner core of hard silicone. Running right through the shaft and ending at the point of the frenulum, it mimics the hardness of erectile tissue. It’s still flexible, still bends quite easily, but it makes the Vixen Creations Maverick firm enough to use without fear of it folding or flopping about.
Now, I said at the start of this review that it almost feels like the Maverick was custom made for me. I say that not just because the dual density is fantastic, but also because, vaginally speaking, the size fits me like a glove. From tip to base it measures 8”, and my vaginal canal is 7”. Add that to the 6” girth and I’m completely filled. I mean, not crazy big dildo filled, but comfortably, naturally filled.
So, on to using it. I don’t fuck around with the Maverick. No angling my butt to lie back and play hands-free. No mounts, no challenging positions, no mirrors. Just on my back. Legs akimbo, thrusting away like it’s the only thing in the world. I can’t play this way for a long time because my wrists won’t have it, but it really doesn’t take me long to get off. Sometimes I’m even put out by my own climax cos I was enjoying the sensations so much. Not often, but sometimes.
It may sound odd, but the Vixen Creations Maverick is my go-to toy for when I want to feel deeply fucked without having an orgasm. If I added clit stim to the mix I’d come whether I wanted to or not, but I just… don’t. There’s just something really special about the way the soft silicone feels that’s hard to describe. It’s not like a human cock because of course it isn’t (side-eyes dildo manufacturers who like to sing ‘even better than the real thing’) but it’s kinda like… more than a dildo. It’s soft but hard, flexible but stiff. And the warmer it gets (either body warmth or water if you fancy heating it pre-play) and the more lube I use, the less dildo-y it feels.
A quick word on anal use – it’s compatible, so no worries about it getting lost, but to be honest, I prefer the Vixen Outlaw. It’s just as squishy, just as awesome, but a few inches longer, and that makes it great for the way I like anal. The Maverick is really good for butt stuff, don’t get me wrong, but for me, the Outlaw is better.
So, yeah, the Maverick is super awesome and super easy to use. If the base had been as soft as the outer layer I might have struggled with grip, but it isn’t. It’s an absolutely solid disc, over 3” in diameter, so I have no trouble holding onto it. Unfortunately, that bollock-less base doesn’t have a suction cup, but it is harness and toy mount compatible, so there are plenty of ways to play with it.
Cleaning VixSkin toys is as easy as cleaning any other silicone toy. I wash mine in soapy water and let it air dry in the cupboard. It stays in its tube cos, Jesus Christ, it’s a fuzz monster. All the pet hair in all the land finds its way to VixSkin stuff, it’s a frigging nightmare.
I sorted my toy storage out recently, mostly to get my crammed bedside drawers back in order. After a bit of lip chewing, the Maverick went in the top drawer, so that’s where mine lives. That probably won’t seem like a big thing to you but consider this – no review product of mine has ever made it into my drawers before it’s been reviewed. The Maverick is the first. That says a lot, no?
