I’ve been such a lucky duck, recently. Some gorgeous sex toys have passed through the doors of the Scandarella household, one of the most recent being the i-Scream ice cream cone vibrator. I love everything about that darling little thing, and now I’m getting to talk about another product from the mind of the same person who designed it. Let me introduce you to the Red Minx Vibrator by Shiri Zinn.
From the moment I ripped the tape off the outer box and saw what was lying in wait among the packing paper, I was smitten. The packaging for this thing is next level stuff. You folks know I’m a self-confessed packaging whore, and the box the Red Minx comes in delights me. Some toys come with pretty paperboard cartons, some with plastic cases. But the Red Minx? This baby comes in a satin lined, faux snake print covered, hand-crafted box. Scarlet and blood red, sturdy, and with a silver clasp to keep it closed. Gorgeous!
Lifting the lid reveals so much sexiness y’all better be sitting down when you do it. You’re in for more sexy scarlet in the shape of a girthy vibrator with a bushy assed tail!
Seriously, the red Minx is so simple in design – shaft, cap, tail – but once all the components are put together there’s something really special about it.
The Shaft
I’m a girl who loves her big insertables. I love the way they stretch my vaginal opening. The way they force my walls to part for them, and the way they put pressure on my perineum. The Red Minx has a six-inch-long shaft, and as luck would have it, six inches is about the maximum length I can comfortably take. I can feel the tapered tip right up around my cervix, and that’s a wonderful thing when I’m being pounded hard. Some don’t like it, but I do.
Girth wise, that easy insert, tapered tip is a manageable 4.5”, but by the time I get it in as far as the end of the shaft? I’ve got a six-inch circumference massaging my vaginal opening. With the shaft being tapered, I constantly get that widening and closing feeling as I thrust, and it’s awesome.
But it doesn’t stop there. The Red Minx isn’t just a satisfyingly chunky vibrator. The shaft has a subtle wave pattern that takes up the middle section. Three soft bumps add extra sensation, which can be felt better if you use less lube and take things slowly.
People often balk when I say, ‘less lube’. More lube is usually good, right? Well, yeah, in general it is, but with some materials, less is more. The Red Minx is made from polycarbonate plastic, and has been buffed to a super glassy shine. It’s completely smooth, the seams only just visible but undetectable by the fingertips. And most importantly, it’s non-porous, non-toxic, and completely body safe.
The Cap
Adding an extra 2.5-inches to the overall length of the Red Minx’s body is the battery cap. Yes, it’s a battery powered vibe, and to get it going you need two C batteries. But that cap, though. The majority of it is made from the same plastic as the shaft, but in a black so shiny I can see my face in it. And topping that black cap is the metal neck that keeps the tail securely attached to the toy.
It isn’t just a plain old bit of metal, either. Not one to ever waste a design opportunity, Shiri Zinn has turned what could have been a boring twist off cap into a beautiful decorative feature. It’s super polished, perfectly rendered with no rough edges, and boasts a belt of twelve sparkly Swarovski crystals!
Now, some crystal encrusted vibes make me raise my eyebrow in mistrust. They often look precariously attached, and you wonder if you’re gonna find them stuck to your butt in the morning, much in the same way you might find your false eyelashes stuck to your partner’s thigh after a particularly good night out. But that’s not gonna happen with the crystals that luxe up the Red Minx. They’re solidly fixed into the metal and are there to stay.
The Tail
Cascading from the end of that glittery metal neck, is the most glam vibrator attachment I’ve ever seen. A twelve-inch-long, scarlet red, marabou feather tail that has been handmade by fashion students at Central St Martins in London. How fucking fancy is that?! Swarovski crystals, and a tail made by the catwalk dominators of the future? I’d better be careful, cos my vulva could end up with one hell of a haughty attitude with all this extravagance.
But, yeah, the tail is beautiful. It’s luxuriously soft, and super bushy. It’s hard to get a good picture of it, but if you’ve ever held a feather boa, just imagine something that fluffy and you’ll have the general idea of what it’s like.
Also, the tail is removeable! So, if you want to take it out during use, or for cleaning, you can. Just pinch the feathers as close to the base as you can get, and gently pull until it comes loose. Don’t fret, the feathers are well attached, you won’t yank them out as long as you take it slowly. It pops back in with no effort whatsoever, and a tiny amount of silicone lube on the metal end makes future removals much easier.
I have a deep fascination with sex toys that are more than just one thing. Dildos with floggers or paddles on the end thrill me. As do vibrators that can be worn as necklaces, or wrist cuffs that look like nothing more than pretty bracelets. The Red Minx is my first ever vibrator with a feather tickler pouring from its base, and I love that. When the tail is removed it can be used to tickle other parts of the body, so essentially you get two toys in one.
The Vibes
So, after all that talk about how stunning the Red Minx is, you’re probably wondering one thing…is it good to fuck?
The answer to that is a resounding YES.
Once the batteries are in and the cap firmly screwed back on, all you need to do to wake up the Red Minx is keep twisting. After a half turn, you’re at maximum vibration and the fun can begin. The cap allows you to choose the exact intensity you want, so your playtime is completely under your control. And, as there aren’t any buttons to accidentally press, there’s no danger of changing speeds at the wrong moment.
Shiri Zinn told me that I’d be surprised by the power of the Red Minx. She also told me to make sure I use only Duracell batteries. At first, I didn’t listen. The Fella was off shopping and I asked him to pick some up, but I couldn’t help putting some cheapy batteries in while he was out. I wanted to feel it.
I wasn’t exactly bowled over. There was a nice rumble, and I could feel the potential for better, but the batteries were just…shit. I confess that I did worry that the Red Minx was more a feat of design than function, but then the Fella came home with the Duracell. They went in, the vibe came on, and I was fucking ecstatic.
That potential I saw was realised with a better-quality power source. I had real rumbles! Because the shaft isn’t silicone coated they felt even stronger than they actually are. They carry through my whole vulva when I use it on my clitoris, and once it’s inside me? If I angle the shaft so that it presses against my g-spot, I can rock against it until I come, and the vibes have that deep massaging quality that makes my orgasms intense and long lasting.
But even better is angling it down so the tip presses against my perineum from inside my vagina. The firmness of the shaft gives me some hard grind, but the smoothness keeps things comfortable. Just jiggling it in that one position and adding a bit of clit stim (from my i-Scream, or course, cos nothing else would feel so right) rockets me toward orgasm.
I much prefer using the Red Minx in this way, for a few reasons:
- It isn’t an anal safe vibe, so only remote bum fun is acceptable
- When I come, it’s a blend of clitoral/vaginal/anal and feels fucking amazing
- I don’t freak out about lubes/body fluids fucking up my pretty feather plumage
After play, the Red Minx is supremely easy to clean, provided you’ve not gunked up the tail. Toy wipes clean the shaft in a heartbeat, and removing the cap to clean just inside of it stops fluids from crusting up the join. I honestly can’t tell you how to clean lube and stuff off the tail, cos I’ve been obsessive about not getting mine dirty. But I can tell you that I store my Red Minx in it’s gorgeous box once it’s dry.
So, who would I recommend this toy to? Folks who like their vibes rumbly, but not power-queen powerful. Those who like their vibrators thick and filling, and those who want something unusual, luxurious, and beautifully made. If you were giving someone special a sex toy as a gift, they’d have some big smiles for ya if you handed them this.
