Think back for a second, to your very first vibrator. If you’re in your mid-thirties like I am (wah!!) there’s a good chance you’re shuddering right now. And if you’re younger, there’s a good chance you’re… well, it’s very probable that you’re shuddering also, because even now, in 2016, far too many entry level vibes which have unintimidating price tags are pieces of shit.
But there are some fab little beginner’s vibes on the market these days, and I’d like to introduce you to one right now:
With just 3.5 inches of insertable length, and a circumference of 3.75 inches, the D3 really is sweet and petite, so is the perfect non-intimidating size for someone looking for their first vibe. The shaft is made from solid plastic, with an outer wrapping of soft purple silicone (in my case – it’s also available in black and white silicone too) with a white ABS plastic base that doubles as a battery housing cover, and features two snazzy silver push buttons.
Sounds like a simple thing, doesn’t it? That’s because it is, and it seriously pisses me off when I see pieces of jelly and rubbery crap being marketed at people who haven’t dipped their toes far enough into the sex toy pool to know that those materials are bad for you. But the D3 isn’t bad for you. Silicone has no phthalates or latex in it, so it’s perfectly body safe, and when it comes to price, it’s pretty much on par with those poisonous ‘first time’ monstrosities that over populate the market.
The last thing about the D3’s appearance that makes it an appealing product for a beginner, is that in many ways, it doesn’t look like a vibrator. I know, I know, most things that are long and insertable looking are considered phallic, but the D3 isn’t even remotely penis shaped, or even classic vibrator shaped. It’s softly rounded, with a slight dip in the shaft, just before the tip, and that makes it look very approachable.
As for vibrations, the D3 offers 3 intensities, and 4 patterns, and to get it going you have to hold the lowest button down for a good 3, maybe even 4 seconds. Same goes for turning it off. I didn’t realise that at first, and threw away two good batteries, thinking they were duds. That same button cycles up through the speeds and modes, and the button above it lets you backtrack if you go too far. Once the toy is switched on, both buttons are very responsive.
The quality of the D3’s vibes weigh in at the buzzy end of the scale for me. They’re not what I’d call weak, but they’re not the type of vibes I personally like, which are the rumbly, knock your socks off kinda vibes. My favourite is the second speed, as the first is too gentle, and the third is too high pitched, so numbs my clit. I really like it as a clitoral warm up toy, though, and the Fella loves having it stroked over his thighs and balls. He’s not a fan of the same rumbles I like, as they’re painful for his sensitive parts, so toys with gentler vibrations do the job nicely for him. I’d recommend the D3 to anyone with a similar preference.
With it being so petite, the D3 is great for people who are new to toy based vaginal penetration. Just use some good quality water-based lube, and take your time. There isn’t going to be a huge amount of stretch, and there isn’t enough length to go poking at your cervix either, so for first timers, it’s fab!
The D3 isn’t submersible, but the box does say that it’s showerproof, so if that’s your thing, feel free to take it into the bathroom with you. I’ve opted not to do that, as I’d need to use a dildo too, and I have to have at least one hand free to help me stay upright, cos my balance pretty much sucks, and slipping in the shower is bad for my health.
OVO haven’t provided a storage pouch for the D3, but I’m in the habit of keeping most of my toys in their boxes if those boxes are solid. This one is, so having no bag doesn’t matter to me, but if you’d rather have a bag to keep your toy in after cleaning (which I do with a cloth, sprayed with toy cleaner), you’ll need to buy one separately.
Bottom line, if you’re looking for something small and cute with a range of gentle to mid ranged vibes, you could do far worse than bag yourself an OVO D3.
