Recently, I’ve been thinking about silicone. Reason being, a few chats with friends have brought up the same statement over and over, and it’s something that pisses me off. They’ve said, “Rubber might not be the best for your body in the long run, but silicone is just so expensive, and the bigger ones…pft, no way!”. Wrong! Oh, so very wrong. Silicone dildos are widespread and can be eye-bogglingly inexpensive. When those friends asked for an example, I pointed them straight at the NS Novelties ColourSoft 8” Silicone Dildo.
I love this dildo so much! But, unlike some of the other dildos in my review queue, it’s nothing fancy. It has no bells and no whistles whatsoever. It’s just a long, fat, realistic dildo in a funky colour, and it’s one of the most fuckable toys in my cupboard.
When I say it’s realistic, I mean it. Not so much in feel, but definitely in appearance. Well, apart from the fact that it’s bright blue. If you find a cock in the wild that’s this colour, get that poor thing a blanket, stat! But yeah, with a detailed head, well-defined coronal ridge, thick veiny shaft, and tight little balls, the NS Novelties ColourSoft is dicklicious!
The ColourSoft range is available in a few styles, and a couple of different lengths and girths. I have greedy orifices, so I opted for the biggest I could get. As this review title will tell ya, I chose the 8-inch version. What it doesn’t tell ya, is that the 8-inches are the insertable length. All in, the ColourSoft measures 9.5-inches.
Girth-wise, you’re looking at a deliciously filling 6-inches. The heavily veined shaft is thicker at the top, and it tapers in to around 5.5-inches in circumference at the bottom, before flaring out into the balls. So, all in all, it’s a very satisfying size without being over challenging.
But those veins, though! Texture on a large dildo can be a bit too much for some folks. If the toy is very rigid, or even totally flexible but with firm silicone, there’s a risk of pubic bone scraping, or discomfort around the vaginal/anal opening. I’ve experienced this myself with glass. But the silicone the NS Novelties ColourSoft is made from is pretty squishy and cushioned, so even though it’s boldly textured, it’s a pleasure to use.
At the base, there’s a suction cup, and this is what turns it from just another pleasant dildo into a fantastic dildo. Some suction cups are, in a word, shite. They don’t stick to anything, or they don’t stick well and detach once the going gets tough. For those who haven’t had a dildo come unstuck right at the wrong moment, believe me when I tell you that it’s rage inducing. Fumbling around between your legs, trying to stick a wet dildo back onto the bathroom tiles without it slipping out of you, while not being able to see a fucking thing… no thanks.
But the NS Novelties ColourSoft suction cup is ace! It sticks brilliantly, not just to tiles, but also polished wood, glass, smooth uPVC, glossy hardback books… basically, any flat surface that’ll allow a tight seal.
My favourite place to stick it is my headboard. Once it’s on there, I lube it up, get on my knees and back onto it. It can be a bit tricky to get it in, with the silicone being so bendy and the shaft being narrower at the base than it is at the top. After it’s inserted, I can bounce away on it until the cows come home, and the suction cup’s seal lasts longer than I do.
In use, the ColourSoft dildo feels delightful. It’s filling, stretching, and long, so every part of me that needs stimulation gets it. The coronal ridge feels so good when moving in and out, especially during anal play. And, no matter which opening I choose, those veins – at their thickest right around the section that will massage the vaginal opening – feel amazing.
If you’re into harness play, you’re in luck as the suction cup makes it harness compatible. The Fella won’t let me at him with this one, despite the softness of the silicone. Whenever it goes in a harness it’s to be used on me. I love realistic dildos for harness play. Even the very firm ones have an authenticity to them that makes it easy to convince myself it’s ‘real’, so something a bit softer just feels better.
If harness play – or even partner play – isn’t your thing, the ColourSoft dildo is great for solo use. You can do as I do and stick it to something so you can ride it, or if you have a toy mount like the Liberator BonBon, the balls and suction cup keep it firmly wedged in no matter how wild you get. And if you’re a hand-held thruster type, it’s light enough and easy enough to grip around the balls so you can angle it and go as fast or as slow as you like.
Once playtime is over, a wash in soapy water and an air dry is all this toy needs to keep it at its best. Bear in mind that it’s a dust magnet when it comes to storing it. Mine goes on a shelf in the sex toy cupboard as a rule, but after hastily stashing it in an open box under the bed, I ended up with what looked like dirty candyfloss. Ugh, super gross. I had to wash it like, five times before it was clean again. I suppose that says as much about my vacuuming habits as it does this dildo’s dust love, but never mind, lol.
So, yeah. As simple as it is, the NS Novelties ColourSoft 8” Dildo is a fab bit of kit. It has something for the size lovers, something for the texture lovers, and something for those who want to play hands free. And, as I said at the beginning of this review, it’s inexpensive. You can pick it up for just $44 at Peepshow Toys at the moment, though in the UK you’re probably looking at around £45/50. Still, I’d rather fork out fifty quid for a silicone dildo than half that for a jelly monstrosity that’s gonna rot me from the inside out.
If you’re in the USA or Canada and are looking for something that will respect your body as much as it pleasures it, click the banner and head on over to Peepshow Toys. They have more than just this dildo to choose from!
