There are some things in my sexy essentials box that many people would deem truly essential. Body safe lubes – water-based flavoured and flavourless – condoms. Some, like massage candles and orgasm enhancing balms, would be deemed essential by way of personal choice. At the same time, there are things missing from my box – hello bondage scissors – which others think I’m mad not to have. And then there’s the things people think are a little more than a waste of money; purpose made sex toy cleaners.
The thing about toy cleaners is they aren’t actually essential. When it comes to keeping your precious fucky things hygienically clean there are loads of options. Depending on the toy, of course. Boiling, bleaching, the dishwasher, a sink of soapy water…they’re all valid choices and they all work and, better still, they don’t cost much, if anything.
But I’m anal about having specific products for specific things, and I’m no different when it comes to keeping my kinky shit in order. Personally, I love sex toy cleaners. For me, they’re part of the whole experience, especially when I’m cleaning up after bondage play.
One that came to me a while back is the All Purpose Alcohol Free Cleaner by Nomi Tang.
It’s taken me a while to get around to reviewing it as I always make a point of emptying an open bottle before opening a new one. I honestly wish I’d gotten around to it sooner cos this could be one of the nicest cleaners I’ve used to date.
Presented in an understated clear plastic pump-action bottle, you get 100ml (3.4 fl.oz) of product. I rarely understock the essentials box, but sometimes things do get overlooked because I think there’s more left in a bottle than there is. For that reason alone, I love the fact that I can see exactly how much is left in the bottle.
Nomi Tang sex toy cleaner is alcohol free, so is very mild and very kind to my toys. There’s no soapiness to it at all. A few sprays are all that’s needed to cover the head of a full sized wand, so even though the bottle is small it’ll last a while. After letting it do its thing for a minute or two grime just wipes (or rinses) away. There isn’t any residue left behind and any strange whiffs are more or less eliminated.
That leads me to one of my favourite things about this sex toy cleaner; the scent. I can’t put my finger on exactly what it is, but it’s absolutely lovely. Some toys reek of chemicals while others are so citrusy fresh it’s like cleaning dildos with dishwashing liquid. The Nomi Tang Cleaner has a floral, body spray kinda fragrance about it that I really love.
Confession time: I’m not always allowed to play alone, and there’s been more than one occasion where I’ve had a sneaky session and have consequently been sprung by the lingering scent of sex toy cleaner. The Fella notices when our room smells like I just washed pots in there. He’s never detected the scent of this Nomi Tang Cleaner, though, so now I feel super stealthy when I sneak in an illicit wank.
