When opportunity knocks, I open the door, cos whenever I do, good things happen! Good things like getting to review this Mötley Crüe Classic Skull Vibrator for Lovehoney.
Just like with the bullet from the same range, I was happy to see the evil finger tearing packaging of Lovehoney’s first foray into band merch – the Motörhead range – had been replaced by something that offered much easier access to the contents. It’s not as fancy as the bullet packaging, but it’s simple, and I like it.
The Mötley Crüe vibrator is one glossy piece of kit! I opted for the Classic Skull design, and I’m glad I did, cos it’s gorgeous! Made from super shiny, black ABS plastic with the band name and a cute skull wraparound print in muted gold, it certainly called to the rock chick in me!
It feels heavy and chunky in my hand, though with a length of 7 inches (around 6 of them insertable) and a modest girth of just 4 inches, it isn’t really all that big. The tip is very pointed, and the base is one of those screw off affairs where the battery housing is. It’s easily removed, and the battery directions are clearly marked, but it’s a pain in the arse to get back on, and I actually hate it.
Reason being, it needs a good twist and click to make the internal connections line up, and this fucks up one of the AAA batteries EVERY SINGLE TIME. It twists the little silver connector right out of top of the battery, though the toy still works despite this. If I (and a couple of other peeps I know) hadn’t had exactly the same problem with the Motörhead version of this toy, I would have contacted Lovehoney to report a fault in manufacturing. I guess this is a fault in manufacturing, but like I say, it doesn’t have a negative effect on the operation of the vibe so it doesn’t bother me too much.
Now, that’s the build quality out of the way, I’ll talk about vibes. I have one word to describe them… OOOF!! Yup, this is one powerhouse of a vibrator! But I get ahead of myself, as usual.
With the Mötley Crüe Classic Skull Vibrator, you get 3 speeds and 4 patterns, and a single button in the battery cap covers all the operations. A quick press turns the toy on, and consecutive presses take you through the available functions until you arrive back at the start. Hold the button in for a few seconds to power off the toy.
Those vibes though! The lowest speed is deep and rumbly, and when you accidentally drop the vibe on the hardwood floor (oops) it bounces all over the place, making one hell of a racket. Moving up through the speeds doesn’t dampen the rumbles at all, and the amount of power the top speed puts out is astonishing, given that it’s only run on 3 triple A’s.
