About a month and a bit before Scandarella became a thing, I got an email from the mighty Cara Sutra. Her Christmas break was upon her and she had a product that needed reviewing. Not wanting to break her own ‘no reviews’ rule, she asked me if I could do it for the Pleasure Panel. Of course I said yes, because it was Cara, and it was an awesome sounding product. And I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it since. Well, not until I got an email from Sex Toys UK asking me if I wanted to review the latest addition to their ace Loving Joy line. Louise (who is my STUK contact and one of the loveliest people ever) was super excited about it, and that in turn got me super excited. So, when the Loving Joy Dua was finally in my hands I couldn’t wait to start getting acquainted.
So, what is the Dua?
Basically, it’s a box full of options. An interchangeable vibrator with two gorgeous attachments. One of them is a midi-wand style attachment and the other is a rabbit. That right there is brilliant, in my opinion. I mean, could two toys be any more different than a wand and a rabbit? Not just in shape, but in size, surface contact, and stimulation type.
Apart from the rose gold rings that trim the ends of the attachments, the entire Loving Joy Dua is made of silicone. Lovely, soft, velvety smooth, mulberry hued silicone. And those rings I mentioned? They’re metal. I thought they were coated plastic at first but they’re not, and that makes me happy. With lubes, body fluids and use, coated plastic doesn’t stay coated for very long, in my experience. It chips and peels, and while all that does is expose ABS plastic (which is perfectly body safe) the bits that come off have gotta go somewhere. Doesn’t bear thinking about, does it?
At just over 3” in length the vibrator part of the Dua is a tiny small thing. The charging port can be found on the back of it in the form of a self-healing hole in the silicone. Yep, it’s a pin charger. Kinda miffed about that cos I much prefer the simplicity of being able to use my phone charger to charge my toys. That said, I prefer a pin charger to magnetic any day of the week, so it isn’t a big deal.
Something that made my eyebrow twitch was the part in the instructions where it recommends that to get the most out of the battery it needs to be charged at least once a month. If you use the toy a lot that won’t be a problem cos you’ll be charging it often anyway (you get up to 2 hours of play from a 2-hour charge, by the way). But if you don’t play much you’ll have to remember to keep the battery topped up else it might die altogether. Yikes!
On the front of the vibrator unit is the single button control. After twisting on your chosen attachment (which is easy enough but could potentially be a bit finicky for some folks), just press that button for a few seconds and you have access to the ten available modes.
When I first switched it on I had a big ol’ smile on my face. It didn’t feel like it was gonna be knock-your-knickers-off powerful, but that initial buzz didn’t make my nose itch. It felt good on my shoulders and over the seam of my jeans, and it didn’t make my nose itch. Never the less, I totally expected it to get buzzier and more annoying as I increased the continuous speed.
But when I clicked the button the speed decreased. So, in the spirit of our era’s mantra, I turned it off and back on again. And, again, the vibes decreased twice before launching into the patterns. Yeah. The Dua starts on its most powerful setting. If it was a setting that didn’t get me off I’d be so disappointed with it, but it can. I can come easily enough using the Dua, though one attachment is more successful than the other. Doesn’t take a genius to work out which.
Wand Attachment
Yep, it’s this attachment that works well for me. Once clicked onto the base you have an 8” midi-wand on your hands. The head measures just over 2” in length and has a girth of just under 5.5”. The neck is a slender 3” and that widens to 4.25” where the attachment and base meet.
I found clitoral stimulation so easy with the Loving Joy Dua. It’s really comfy to hold, and there’s hardly any transference of vibes into the handle. All of the power is in the wand-head. Plenty of water-based lube on me and the toy lets me slip and slice it all over my inner labia and clit, which feels great. Even pressing it firmly into my mons and over my outer labia is pleasant. I usually dislike that with wand vibes cos it feels like my flaps are being slapped, and not in a good way. But with the Dua wand, it’s less buzzy/intense and I like it.
Something else I like about the wand is how awesome it feels internally. The neck lets it skim around my pubic bone, and the bulbous nature of the head finds my g-spot with ease. It’s a little bit buzzier than I’d like, but I can get a good amount of pressure going so it negates the potential for itchy walls. That I don’t like but it hasn’t been a problem with this toy.
Aside from genital stimulation, I really quite enjoy using the Dua as a shoulder/neck massager. It’s quiet enough, firm enough, and comfy enough for me to use on my own. I like it on my butt cheeks too, but that’s a job for the Fella.
Rabbit Attachment
I didn’t really expect to be able to reach orgasm with this attachment, but I can. From end to end it measures 9.5”. Like most rabbits, 4.5” of that is insertable. As a rule, I prefer deeper penetration, so I tend to aim for my g-spot with shorter toys like rabbits. At its widest point the shaft is 4.5”, so again, pretty standard. The external arm is around 2” long and softly rounded with a bit of a bulge on the front.
It isn’t so much the size of rabbits that gives me grief, it’s fit. Getting the external arm to make constant contact with my clit when the shaft is inserted can be a real pain in the arse.
Situating the Dua just right takes a bit of wiggling, and once it’s there I don’t want to lose it, so I tend to just jiggle it rather than thrusting. This helps maintain good contact, and surprisingly enough the vibes feel just as strong externally as they do in the shaft. Shaking my wrist and rocking my hips brings me to a slow, decent enough orgasm. Not as good as the ones I get from the wand attachment, but good enough for me to want to use it multiple times.
Temptation
Ugh, the handle! The curve and the slightly flattened head makes me wonder how it would feel as a g-spotter. Thing is, I’m not sure it’s a good idea. The twist-on nature of the attachments makes me worry that it might twist apart inside me. That would not only expose all the connectors to body fluids, but it would also mean I’d have to push the vibe unit out like I was laying an egg. You might be thinking if you don’t think it’s a good idea why mention it? Well, if I can think of it all of y’all can too, so I thought I would say I don’t recommend it. Just so you know.
According to the instructions you need to use some kinda wipes to clean the Dua. Whether they’re sex toy wipes, baby wipes, or a damp cloth is up to you. As it’s silicone be sure to only use water-based lubes, and only store either on its own or with other silicone toys.
So, would I recommend the Loving Joy Dua? Yes. Yes, I would. The interchangeable attachment aspect makes it versatile. The difference in the shapes of the attachments gives you a handful of completely different types of stimulation; dual stim, broad clit stim, targeted clit stim, broad internal stim, g-spot stim. It’s great quality, body safe, easily rechargeable. If you need super powerful vibes you probably won’t love it, and if you need lower frequency vibes it probably isn’t for you.
