I nearly died a thousand deaths when the Lovehoney Desire range was launched. I hadn’t heard as much as a whisper about a new range in the pipelines, and when I first saw them I couldn’t decide which one I wanted most. In the end I didn’t have to decide, because Valentine’s Day came along, and along with a few other things, the Fella presented me with the Desire Luxury Clitoral Vibrator.
The packaging for the Desire range is exactly what I’ve come to expect from Lovehoney. Tasteful, simple, and modern. But inside the smoky grey and Cadbury purple cardboard box, there’s a surprise. Each piece from the Desire range comes with a fantastic, made to measure lockable toy case. They’re pretty much the same as the larger versions Lovehoney sell, the main differences being that the lining inside is black not purple, and doesn’t feel like neoprene, and there’s a hole in the back of the made to size cases to ensure charging is as discreet as possible.
Inside of that lovely little case, I found my Clitoral Vibrator inside of a plastic clam shell, the usb charger, and an instruction manual.
The Clitoral Vibrator is made from gorgeously silky, deep purple silicone. It’s a curved pebble shape that’s so Lelo-esque I’m dying to get hold of a Lelo Lily 2 so I can do a comparison. No matter who first thought of the shape though, it’s a perfect fit for my hand. Whether I’m holding flat against my palm to tease my skin, or if I’m holding it tip down to stimulate my clit, it’s super easy to hold onto, though lube makes things interesting if you get too carried away with your application. FYI, make sure your lube is water-based, or you’ll run the risk of ruining that lovely smooth finish.
The controls are the type that lie beneath the surface of the toy, and are denoted by easy to feel symbols; plus (+) to turn the toy on and increase the speed (there are 6 of those), a bullseye (O) to scroll through the 8 patterns, and a minus (–) to decrease speed and switch off.
The charging point is located at the thicker end of the vibe, and is a self-healing hole, so the Desire Clitoral Vibrator is fully waterproof, meaning that bath/shower fun is an option, and cleaning is easy. There’s a smoky silver, metallic panel on the base of the toy, and I’m not sure what it’s there for. I’m guessing it’s a decoration, like certain Lelo products have, but it adds nothing to ease of use or functionality, it’s just a pain in the butt to clean. I’d have been happier if it wasn’t there at all, to be honest.
Up to this point I was really happy with the Desire Clitoral Vibrator. It ticked all the boxes in terms of build, ease of use, and useable packaging. But as is always the way, the proof is in the eating, or rather the vibrating, in this case.
Aaaaand… disappointment. The vibrations on offer here aren’t the worst I’ve ever come across, and I can reach orgasm with them, but I’m left feeling unsatisfied afterward. The best way to describe it is, it can make me come, but it can’t make me come hard enough, and unless I get a proper orgasm fast, I get an ache in my groin.
The problem there is, the Desire Clitoral Vibrator has high frequency, buzzy vibes, and my clit is left unhappy to be touched after use, so I have to wait an hour or two for it to come out of its huff before I can try again. Sometimes that isn’t an option, so I’m left with frustration and discomfort until I get an opportunity to give myself what I need.
We’ve tried it in a good few scenarios, from a cold start right up to the point where clapping too close to my clit could be enough to tip me over the edge, but I’m always left with the same, over-buzzed feeling.
But, ever one for the silver linings, I have to say that the Fella likes it. He’s not a fan of rumbles, so these more surface level vibes are perfect for him. He loves having them stroked over his balls and thighs, and if I had an hour to sit there and stroke it back and forth around his anus and over his perineum, he’d let me. So while it doesn’t work for me as a clitoral vibe, it certainly works as a man-pleaser.
