Some people might struggle to select exactly which toy will have the honour of being the first review to appear on their blog. Luckily, I’m not one of them. As soon as I decided to jump off the cliff and create Scandarella, I knew exactly what toy to choose. It was a no-brainer really.
Meet The Lelo Ella.
Aah, a name after my own heart!
I was drawn to the Lelo Ella not because of the name, but rather because of the shape. The Lelo Gigi 2 has been on my mind for a long time, but with so much choice out there and so many new things to try, it remains out of my grasp for the time being. But when the Ella caught my eye in a sale at Peachy Keen, I mulled over its similarities to its vibrating cousin and it didn’t take me long to decide I couldn’t not have it.
Lelo’s products always come beautifully presented, and the Ella is no exception. A clean black and white sleeve hides a sturdy black presentation box – which not only makes this totally giftable, but is more than perfect for permanent storage – and in that box lies the Ella. There’s an instruction manual in there too, as well as a registration card, a sachet of lube, and a satin pouch for those who would rather not use the box.
Made from gorgeously smooth silicone – I picked deep rose – the tip of the dildo curves quite abruptly, making it almost hook-like. There are two seams that curve down the front, providing a little bit of grip for slippery fingers. Having no electrical parts it’s completely submersible, so water babies will delight, as will people who don’t like fussy to clean toys. At 7 inches in length (5 insertable) and 1.25 inches in girth at the widest point, it’s not the biggest dildo in my world, but it is one of the best.
I get a lot from G-Spot stimulation, and the Ella delivers that in spades. The 1 inch diameter hooked tip finds my sweet spot quite naturally, so there’s no awkward angling or poking to put me off my game, and adding a bit of clitoral stimulation while just gently thrusting the Ella in and out takes me on a lovely stroll to a strong blended climax.
However, if I’m going for a full on squirting session, the tapered handle end does prove to be a challenge in the final throes, and this is one of two issues I have using this particular dildo. It’s one of a handful of toys where I find myself in a catch twenty two.
When it comes to draggy silicone (which this is) we all know it’s always better when it’s wetter, but once it’s wetter there’s no holding onto this damned dildo unless I’m indulging myself with a long, slow session. My fingers constantly slip off the end and drive me insane, and the harder and faster I need to go, the more I can lose my grip.
I have tried using less lube, and while it does work for a while it does eventually have its own drawbacks. If it’s done firmly enough, G-Spot stimulation gets me squirting almost every time, which is great. Unfortunately, when I squirt on the Ella I lose my slick. I can’t say what it is about those particular fluids, but they really do wash away that lube. This results in having the hook trapped behind my pubic bone, and I’ve had to wait until my body ebbs away from arousal before I can remove it.
I can’t say how the Ella fares during anal use, as I won’t put anything that lacks a flared base up there. I can imagine it would work well on the prostate, given that we’ve found that G-Spot toys are often just as good for the P-Spot, but explaining why the Fella has a silicone dildo lodged somewhere it shouldn’t be doesn’t bear thinking about, so I really wouldn’t take the risk.
But for all that, I still wouldn’t part with my Lelo Ella. It’s consistently brilliant and takes me to the finish line every time, and although I will admit to reaching for other toys when I want it rough, I truly would cry if I lost it.
