In the time I’ve been reviewing sex toys I’ve come across some fancy pants things. A vibrator that copies your rhythms, a rabbit you can control with your voice, dildos with intricate textures, s-shaped bends and banana-like curves, some of which even have holes in the base so you can vibe them up if you fancy it. Yeah, there’s a hell of a lot more out there to play with than there was in the days when I first started using sex toys, that’s for sure, and that’s a wonderful thing.
But sometimes, simple and elegant is all a body needs, and nothing out there is as beautiful in its simplicity as the Dalia Porcelain Dildo by Desirables.
From the minimalist white box with its burnt red sleeve to the rich earthy tones of the box’s inner lining and the included storage bag, everything about the Dalia experience is understated and refined.
There’s a tiny little envelope in the box that contains an authenticity card, which is a lovely touch. Also, there’s an in depth instruction manual. In it you’ll find tips about lubes, temperature play and writing down fantasies, as well as instructions on care and how to use your Dalia for G-Spot stimulation and kegel exercising.
Even just that booklet tells you how much Desirables care about their customers’ experience with their products. They want you to be happy, they want you to get the very best out of your new toy.
And what a toy the Dalia is!
Like I said above, it’s beautifully simple. In fact, it’s quite possibly the simplest sex toy I have. There are no bumps, ridges, or swirls, and the size is very much on the petite side. But don’t confuse simple with basic, because this is anything but.
The Dalia is made from gorgeous, matte white porcelain and it looks so unassuming, lying there in its pretty box. If a dildo was ever going to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing, though, this would be it. It’s a double ended dildo, measuring up at 6.75”. One side is intended for G-Spot stimulation and the other to enhance kegel exercising.
G-Spotting
As you’ll probably know if you’ve read any of my other reviews, I love G-Spot play. I love how it feels from start to finish, and these days I find even the smallest amount of the correct stimulation has me squirting at the most, gushing helplessly at the least. Four and three quarters of an inch in girth, the G-Spot end of the Dalia makes up around 3” of the length. It’s elongated, bulbous yet tapered, designed to curve around and behind the pubic bone to nestle against the G-Spot.
Insertion is super easy with a little slick of lube, and once it’s inside me it finds my G-Spot area quite naturally. Any lube can be used with the Dalia, and I find that a perfect opportunity to get out the silicone lubes and head to the bath. I’m not usually a lover of playing with toys in the bath, but there’s something supremely, sensually indulgent about unwinding in deep, hot water, hidden beneath a layer of bubbles, with a warmed up porcelain dildo massaging my internal walls until I come.
The Dalia feels so comfortable inside me, and it’s pretty easy to use. If I’m not in the mood for a tranquil masturbation session in the bath, I can easily have a rougher ride with this dildo. All I need to do to change it from soft to hard is tilt my wrist. The tapered point offers very intense, pinpoint stimulation. Instead of stroking my G-Spot I can grind into it, rub it fast or twist the tip in tight circles. This is the time my gushes turn to squirts, and it’s all done with the same dildo. Marvellous!
Kegeling
I’ve seen loads of dildo shapes badged up as kegel exercisers, but I have to confess that I’ve never really paid much attention to them. When I want to do my kegels I reach for wearable eggs, jiggle balls or my trusty e-stim vibrator. But Desirables claim that the Dalia is great at facilitating kegeling, so naturally I gave it a shot.
The kegel bulb of the Dalia is a slender 3.75” in circumference, and it sits comfortably once inserted. Again, I just use a small amount of lube because the super smooth surface of the dildo doesn’t call for a lot. Once I’m settled and it’s in me, following a set of exercises is as easy or as difficult as you want to make it.
I get bored doing the same routine over and over, so every so often I search online to find different patterns, just to keep things fresh. Exercises can be as simple as just squeezing and holding in a set rhythm for five minutes, or you can do on and off, short bursts of quick squeezes interspersed with long holds, etc.
To my surprise, the Dalia really is good to use for kegeling. When I lie back with it inserted there’s still a portion of the shaft outside of my body. I can see it poking out from between my legs if I’m propped up with a pillow or if I sit up, but I have to use a mirror if I’m on my back cos my belly gets in the way.
When I squeeze my muscles I can see the Dalia moving. It rises as it’s drawn closer to my body, and when I relax it drops. Having visual feedback during kegeling is a pretty excellent motivator.
In the booklet, Desirables recommend that you hold onto your Dalia for the first few sessions, and this is especially important if your muscles aren’t all that strong yet. You don’t want to drop it, for a start, and it can be disheartening at first if your kegel exerciser flops out while you think you’re putting in a gold medal worthy performance.
Cleaning and Care
I confess, I was a bit nervous about cleaning my Dalia at first. Scratching it was a massive fear, cos then it would be no good. It’s robust, sure, but it isn’t invincible and I was terrified I was going to kill it. I’ve got a few ceramic toys now, but I think it was the word ‘porcelain’ that freaked me out. All the ornaments I broke when I was a kid were porcelain…
But cleaning the Dalia couldn’t be simpler. Desirables sell a toy cleaner that they recommend you use, but I’ve used a different foaming cleaner to great effect. I’ve used wipes too, and a sink full of soapy water after a bath to shift any traces of silicone lube. As I mentioned earlier, there’s a drawstring bag included, but I’d worry that it might still get knocked and chipped so I keep mine in its white box. Once you ditch the sleeve there’s no way of telling what’s inside unless you look.
I’d definitely recommend the Dalia to anyone looking for a vaginal dildo, or a dildo that’s been designed with kegel exercise in mind. It retains heat well, feels lovely when chilled and used on a sensitive body, and can be used with any type of lube. I wouldn’t recommend it for anal use, though, because with no flare at either end it isn’t anal safe. If you want to pick up a Dalia of your own, click the banner below.
