If you’re looking for a good quality, insanely affordable sex toy brand, look no further than Blush Novelties. Once hugely frowned upon in the sex blogging world, Blush has turned themselves around largely thanks to the efforts of one Ducky Doolittle. Everything Blush product that’s come my way over the last year or two has really impressed me, and this, the Blush Novelties Nocturnal Lipstick Vibe definitely hasn’t let the side down.
Bullet vibrators have got to be one of the most common types of sex toy, they’re available everywhere. Wee, skinny little things that can be cheap and quite literally cheerful, or subtle and expensive. Nine times out of ten cheap ones deliver weak, high pitched vibes and the pricier ones have more (sometimes a lot more) depth.
Before it even arrived at Scandarella House, I had the Blush Novelties Nocturnal Lipstick Vibe on a pedestal. See, their Noje Mini Wands felt more powerful to me than my beloved We-Vibe Tango, so I was unwaveringly convinced that the Nocturnal would be at the very least on par with it. It didn’t take me long to find out whether I was right or just kidding myself.
So, the vibe. It’s a bit bigger than your standard bullet. Tip to base, it measures 4”, which makes it half an inch longer than usual. And it’s a chunky monkey with its 2.75” girth, again trumping other bullets by half an inch. It doesn’t sound like much, but you can feel it in your hand. There’s a lovely weight to it, balanced in the middle, and a robustness that’s tantamount to its quality build.
The Blush Novelties Nocturnal Lipstick Vibe is made of ABS plastic, with a soft silicone base. The colour options aren’t wildly different from anything else on the market, but the colour I have is actually really nice. It’s a metallic and probably more burgundy than (as it’s named) dusty rose.
There’s a lot going on down on the aforementioned silicone base. The magnetic charger connects there, for a start. Two hours connected to the mains via the USB cable will see it fully charged, and you get up to 45 minutes of play before it dies. In general, the lower speeds will get you closer to the maximum time, and the higher you go the less time you’ll have. A blinking light lets you know that charging is underway, and a steady light will let you know when it’s complete.
Also down there on the base, you’ll find a pair of buttons. Yep, you’re right, they are very minuscule. One is marked with a PLUS and the other a MINUS. The former switches the toy on and lets you cycle up through the functions, and the other lets you cycle back down again. Which, in my opinion, is awesome. I think this might be the first ever bullet I’ve seen that gives the option of backtracking if you overshoot and I adore Blush for that.
When it’s first switched on it begins on its lowest constant speed. I thanked all the known gods for this, cos I don’t like this trend of toys starting with their power shot. And it doesn’t have a memory either, so every time it comes on it gives out its gentlest vibes. Function wise, you get ten options. Five constant speeds and five patterns.
Noise wise, you get more than enough. I was a bit taken aback at how loud the Blush Novelties Nocturnal Lipstick Vibe actually is. When the Fella checked it out while I was in the spare room that is now my tiny office, I heard it. Our bedroom door was open, but the spare room door was closed. Blankets don’t muffle it, and bodily orifices don’t either. For that reason, I shy away from using this toy when my kid is at home, or when it’s late and very quiet.
Which is a shame cos, Jesus fucking Christ, it’s just a bit incredible. Like I said at the start of this review, I had high expectations about it, and it’s smashed right through them. So much power! Sometimes too much, cos it travels right through my hand and gives me pins and needles. I can feel a buzz there, but beneath it, it’s got such a kick I don’t even care if I lose the use of my hand for ten minutes after every wank.
No, I don’t care that I get buzzed, but I’m not insensitive to the fact that this will be an issue for some folks. One person who it’s not awesome for? The Fella. He takes meds that thin his blood because of clots, and he’s supposed to take care around vibrations. Yeah, he uses wands and such, but their vibes don’t travel through the handle and shake the shit out of his hands. He rolls his eyes at me, but I insist that he wraps the hood of our Cumpanion towel around the end (let’s face it, he won’t ever need to change the vibes from full constant) to lessen the effect.
When I’m using the Blush Novelties Nocturnal Lipstick Vibe I come lightning fast. Sometimes I get annoyed cos it feels like it’s over before I even had a chance to enjoy myself. But my clit responds to its vibes insanely fast and there’s bugger all I can do about it. One of my joys is that I don’t really need full on contact for the first explosion.
