At the start of your pegging adventures, you’ll likely be on the lookout for small to medium sized dildos. If you’re in the early stages of anal play you might want those dildos to be soft and textureless. And to reach the P-Spot (or G-Spot if you’re doing strap-on play with a vulva owner) you’re probably looking at dildos with curved shafts and ‘hooked’ or bulbous tips. If that sounds like a quest you’re currently on, the Blush Avant P1 Pride Dildo could be the one for you.
I absolutely adore the appearance of this dildo. I mean, how could I not? It’s bright, bold, and super cheerful. Each colour is separated from the next in clean, crisp blocks, and the orange stripe is practically neon. I’ve intentionally put the Avant P1 at the front of my dildo shelf (with another couple of rainbow dildos) so that whenever I open the cupboard door I get a burst of colour right in the face. Because, really, is there anything in the world more uplifting than the sight of a rainbow?
But in this instance, the bonny colours aren’t just there to be decorative. At the tail end of the 70s, this much-loved colour spectrum of stripes was adopted by the gay community as the flag that represents their identity. Blush has incorporated a handful of identity flags into their Pride line, so it’s worth checking the range out to see if your own personal flag has been included. I don’t know how big this line is gonna get, so if yours isn’t there now it might be at some point in the near future.
Just like the rest of the line, the Avant P1 is made from the silkiest silicone. Its platinum cured, softly matte, and delightfully smooth to the touch. All silicone can be draggy, but this isn’t draggy in the slightest. It glides really well with just the lightest coating of water-based lube, in my experience, but that’s vaginally speaking. For anal, it needs a bit more, mostly for cushioning purposes.
At the start of this review, I suggested that the Avant P1 is an ideal early pegging dildo. For those inexperienced of anus, or for those who just don’t like big toys, it’s a fab size. Because it’s quite short (6” in total length) there’s nothing intimidating about it. Someone nervous about taking a toy anally won’t have the worry that their pegger will go too deep in the throes of passion. Cos, by the time you consider the harness ring and how body fits against body, it’s likely that they can’t.
The tip is a slender 3.75” in circumference and it’s nicely rounded. The shaft itself only has a hint of a curve, but the way it dips in beneath the tip to a super slim 3” gives the impression of quite a bold one. That dip helps the toy skirt around pubic bones for vaginal players, and it tilts the tip naturally toward internal hotspots.
Near the base, the shaft swells into a 4.5” bump. If you fancy shallow penetration you can give clear instructions to go no deeper, and when you’re ready you can take it inside of you and enjoy the new stretch. If you’re playing alone, this same bump can become a perineum stimulator, or it can even help you hold it is as the shaft slims a little just after it.
The base isn’t just harness compatible. It has a suction cup base that’s decently strong, so that opens up a world of possibilities. Shower walls, floors, chairs, the side of the bath… you can stick it to whatever smooth surface you fancy. Whichever way you decide to use it, you might well find, like I did, that the very things that are positive about the Avant P1 can also be its limitations.
For us, the first issue we encountered was the short size. See, I have a big belly and our harnesses all ride beneath it. If I wear something tight fitting it’s not as much of a problem, but if I’m playing nekkid my belly stops me getting close enough to the Fella to easily penetrate him. I can’t see what I’m doing in certain positions, and with longer dildos, that’s no big deal. But with short dongs like the Avant P1, I’m often going in blind, or not at all cos I lose so much of its already limited length. Other folks with larger bellies will likely have the same problem.
To negate the issue, we just use the Avant P1 by hand. And the Fella really likes it. He has weird fits and starts where he loves anal, then he hates it and won’t have it for months. Or he’ll be all for using larger toys then will suddenly cringe at the thought of anything bigger than a finger. But the P1 hasn’t been labelled too big or small, too hard or soft, too long or short…nope, his inner Goldilocks hasn’t reared her high-maintenance head at all.
Every time I’ve suggested using the Avant P1 it’s been an enthusiastic yes. But I haven’t managed to successfully stimulate his prostate with it yet. Just like I find when using it for G-Spotting, the slim shaft actually prevents me from putting enough pressure on to firmly stimulate. It bends, then ends up at a weird angle that isn’t comfy on the wrists. He says it feels okay and that the contact I do manage to get is good in a teasing way, but he prefers thrusting to grinding.
The bendy shaft causes a few issues for solo anal insertion, too. If I lie down to slip it in it’s not so bad but trying to use the suction cup is a pain. Large toys are often heavy or unwieldy for solo anal, but small toys can be just as annoying. Trying to keep this little thing stiff enough to sit on is so hard. My knuckles get in my way, or I get it to penetrate but not deep enough. When I move my hand, my body spits the tip back out. And as necessary as lube is, its slickness makes insertion all the more awkward.
But despite those few niggles, we both really like this toy. I think that, as my stomach gets smaller, I’ll have more freedom to use it as a pegging dildo. And I think that my elevated position above the Fella might well help me find the right angle for reaching his prostate. I should probably make it clear that the issues I’ve talked about are less about the toy itself and more about the toy in relation to my body. That shouldn’t reflect badly on the Avant P1 at all, cos not every toy will work with every body, it’s impossible.
The Avant P1 is a truly body safe, unintimidating, beautiful dildo that’s super easy to keep clean. Soapy water does the trick. But if you want extra peace of mind (if you’re sharing between butts/vaginas for instance) you can use toy cleaners, give it a quick boil, or even stick it in the dishwasher.
We’d definitely recommend this one, just be aware that its small size could potentially make it hard to use for those with limited reach or those harness wearers who carry their excess weight around the middle.
